Statement Necklaces: Save or Splurge?

The Trend of the Month Challenge was announced yesterday!  This month's theme?  Statement necklaces!

This is a challenge for me personally considering I don't really own any necklaces that qualify.  I know, I know...what kind of blogger am I?!  Oh well...looks like I need to go shopping (sorry honey!)

Here are a few of my favorites I've found in a variety of price points:

Splurge:  1   /   2
Save - Under $30:   1   /   2
Save - Under $15:  1   /   2

So which is your favorite?  Would you splurge or save with these options?

XO - Marion

PS - I hope you'll join in on the Trend of the Month link-up next Wednesday!  Details HERE.

I love the JCrew one, but I am biased because I just got it!

I drool over that J Crew one but I'm cheap and have a hard time justifying over $200 on a necklace that isn't fine jewelry. I'm sure the knockoffs are out there somewhere, too. :) However - I am loving the blue and green option from F21!! BOO to being on a shopping ban or I'd nab that one!

All of my statement necklaces are relatively inexpensive. I get a lot of them online (ebay or other jewelry boutiques). You might try Jeweliq.

Good luck! Can't wait to link up!

i'm a save person on jewelry unless its a more timeless item (or a watch i'll wear every day). like i need another thing to splurge on!

Phoebe said...

I think it'll depend on how often you'll end of wearing the item. Personally for me I have a hard time dishing out the $ on necklaces.
The two forever 21 options are gorgeous and so is the Zara collar one. :)

I personally am a huge fan of statement necklaces -- I think they can take an ordinary outfit like a white t-short and jeans and make it wow!! xo

I am partial to the JCrew necklace but I have it and have gotten a ton a wear out of it!

Loving the statement necklace! Boutiques can offer some great options at a modest price. Larger dept. stores can be too pricey for me. Also, have a few vintage finds from ebay.

Oh Dear! Love this Marion! I have more statement necklaces, rings, cuffs than I have space for on my vanity. Excited!! You are glowing with your growing (pear) bump! Whitley

I love the J.Crew one's, but I have a hard time spending that much on a piece of costume jewelry. I would rather spend it on clothing, but mayeb its just because Im broke right now!

The save under $15 necklace #2 looks almost exactly like one I have! I'm obsessed with statement necklaces now since I started blogging :)

Here's a question...are statement necklaces bigger for the spring/summer versus the fall/winter?? I find that a lot of the beautiful necklaces are more appropriate for the warmer months. Thoughts?

Marion Green said...

@ Victoria -
Such a great question. I think that statement necklaces carry into fall beautifully (and are a big trend). The nature of the necklace changes for winter though (in my opinion). A large, dangly statement necklace with a chunky knit sweater? Not a great balanced look. Instead, a tailored collar necklace with a thin fitted sweater for winter is appopriate.
Also, color schemes certainly change. I would look for more metals, jewel-tones and darker shades for fall/winter and stay away from delicate pastel hues.

Great question Victoria!!

I can't wait to link up Wednesday! I have so many statement necklaces, it's going to be hard to decide which one to wear. It seems we have opposite problems haha
As for saving or splurging - I say save. Statement jewelry is very trendy, and my general rule of thumb is save on trendy items. However, look on ebay or threadflip. Lots of gorgeous "splurge" necklaces for half the price!! Win-win!! :)

see you wednesday!

I love the Zara bib necklace! I wouldnt splurge since most are pretty trendy...and why buy one when you could by 2 or 3 for the same price!? Sounds like a good plan to me! :)

I tend to get my trendy jewelry at Target or Forever 21, to be honest! I view it the same way you talk about shoes: have some investment pieces like diamond earrings and classy, multi-purpose or use pieces and go for the "steal" on the ones you may only wear for a season or two!

That being said, I always find myself drawn to the expensive ones anyway... Oh well :)

I'm excited for this link up to see how other bloggers style their statement necklaces. They tend to give me trouble. I tend to save when it comes to these, just because I can't wear them too often so I don't want to splurge on them.

Love all your picks! This challenge will be..well..a challenge for me. I have two statement necklaces, but I never wear them. Hmm.. time to get creative!

I'm pretty much on the "save" side here. Forever 21 has some great pieces for less than $15. I would rather save up for that forever piece than to spend a ton of money on something I may not love in 2 years...or 2 months!

I tend to purchase save options. I always feel guilty buying pricey custome jewelry.

I sometimes brave the pre-teen F21 crowds just to look at their necklaces - though they don't last forever, the $7 statement necklaces I've gotten there have gotten me the most compliments. Plus it's fun to be able to change things up when it's so inexpensive.

I do have a couple of splurge necklaces that I love, but only because my sweet husband splurged on my behalf for Christmas/birthday...

I have been thinking about purchasing some fun necklaces and have really liked the JCrew Bubble necklaces. I just recently came across a place to get a knock-off for cheap and was so exited I purchased one on the spot. Can't wait to start wearing it.
