So...I'm Pregnant!

Phew!
I've been wanting to share this news with you for so long now!  The husband and I are thrilled about the news and feel so blessed.  Like many couples, we experienced heartache along the journey to start a family.  It certainly makes me that much more thankful for the little life growing inside me now :)

How far along are you?
I'm currently 15 weeks.
Which means that the baby is the size of an apple.  My husband really loves it when I give fruit analogies when explaining the baby's size:
Me: "So the baby is approximately 3 inches long now."
Husband: "But what type of fruit is that?"
Me: "Um, it says here it's the size of a lemon."
Husband: "Oh my gosh...Wow!!"

It's been more and more difficult to hide it!

Will there be any changes on the blog?
Well, I'll certainly be looking a little bigger around the waist in my photos :)  But the blog's focus and emphasis will stay the same: style and trends that are wearable + accessible.  But I honestly don't know what to expect with this whole pregnancy thing...I've never done it before!

Any fears?
Absolutely.  Many of you know that I don't have a mom...so I have been going through a few difficult periods of "How will I know what to do?" and "Who is going to teach me?"  I seriously walked into Babys R Us and had to turn around because I felt so overwhelmed and lost.  How can something so small need so much stuff?  As I walked out to my car, I wanted to cry.
Needless to say, I will likely be leaning on girlfriends and readers who can give me their best "mom advice!"  So if you have any - please know that I'm grateful for any bit of knowledge :)

How are Bogey and Palmer feeling about the news?
They are excited and crossing their paws that it's a beagle (I didn't have the heart to tell them about the human vs. dog thing.  Maybe in time...).

So...there it is!  I'm so excited to share it with you finally!!

XO - Marion

Awww congratulations! I know EXACTLY what you mean about being overwhelmed by it all... When I got pregnant and went to Babies R Us for the first time, I ended up in tears and had to leave after 5 minutes. It's so overwhelming to think about the little life inside of you, and their needs (most of which you don't even know about at that point!). Hang in there!! It's such a blessing and joy to be pregnant and to be a mommy! You'll be a great mom!!! Congrats!

Congratulations - so, so thrilled for you!! Sending you tons of happy thoughts. :) Also, for what it's worth, babies DON'T need all that stuff - I swear the industry tries to convince you that all kinds of random things are "necessary," but they're really not. So don't be overwhelmed!

Also, I did a post on remixing a maxi dress for pregnancy if you're interested! http://laceetc.blogspot.com/2012/06/pregnancy-wardrobe-maxi-dress-5-ways.html

Being a mom is such a blessing, I'm sure you'll be great at it. I became a mom at the early age of 19and the easiest book I read to help me along the way was "What to expect when you're expecting". Also, don't over analyze things just go with your instinct.

Hi! I'm a fairly new reader, and I just wanted to say congratulations! That's so exciting!

My advice would be to avoid Babies R Us altogether if you can. I hate it - the layout is so confusing. If you have a Buy, Buy Baby nearby (same as Bed, Bath, and Beyond but baby stuff), go there. Such a better shopping experience, and you won't leave in tears.

Oh my word!!! Congrats!!! I'm so excited and happy for you! I know you will look amazing and can't wait to see your preggers style! ;)

Best Mom advice, relax - you already know what is best for you and your baby. Trust your instincts. You don't need half of what "they" try to push at you.

My husband & I made the decision to breastfeed and use cloth diapers (the old fashioned ones) from the start. The little guy potty trained himself at about 18 months, but didn't give up the comfort nursing until 21 months.

Best stuff to prevent stretch marks, good old Vaseline. Worked wonders and no stretch marks appeared.

Congrats again and I can't wait to hear all about it!

Congratulations!!!!! You look beautiful and glowing!!! And the only thing you need to know about being a mom is to LOVE that little baby with all your heart. The rest will take care of itself! I also heard this once - "If you want to show your kids that you love them, spend half the money on them and twice the time with them." That has stuck with me. They just want your time and attention!!!

I hope you have an amazing pregnancy. I'm looking forward to reading all about it!!!

What?!?!? Needless to say we only bought one. The whole carseat section was a whole other break down. But I promise you will learn to navigate it all!

My mom died when I was five and the grandmother who raised passed away a good eight years before I got pregnant so I totally get the being overwhelmed thing. ;) Although your instincts will kick in (I promise) I thought I'd share with your a couple of books that really helped me out: The first is The Baby Gizmo Buying Guide (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=the+baby+gizmo+buying+guide) It has tons of great info on baby stuff - what you need, what you don't, where to get it, etc. Very helpful at least for education. Remember you really don't need everything they tell you that you do. Promise. Second is Baby 411 (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=baby+411) It is co-authored by a pediatrician and I found it far more helpful than the What to Expect books. (Although those are worth reading and keeping around.) Hope this is helpful and know that if you have any questions you are welcome to email me. I'll be happy to help any way I can. God Bless, and congrats again! ;)

I don't know you but love your blog and am excited for you! As a mom of 2 I'll tell you what I wished someone would have told me...you don't need most of that stuff at Babies R Us. The first few weeks all you need are diapers and wipes, a few onesies, a few gowns, a place for baby to sleep (be that your bed or a bassinet), some receiving blankets, and a place to put baby when you are taking a shower (bouncy seat or swing). The hospital will send you home with samples of baby wash, lotion, nipple cream, diaper rash ointment, even pacifiers etc. And guess what? If you forget to get a carseat before baby arrives...the hospital will provide one for you, because they can't let you leave without one. I'm sure you'll have waaay more stuff than that, so no worries, you'll be fine! If those girls on "Teen Mom" can raise a child to toddlerhood without tragic results...you can too!

It is good that you decided to buy an air conditioning unit before your alter-egos started to get cranky. And it is sweet of your two boys come with you to buy and install the unit for you! I think, with the hot weather and the temperatures we’re experiencing nowadays, having a working air conditioning unit can help cool down anybody.
