Moments of the Week
"Did I Just Do That?!" Moment
While leaving a voicemail message for a parent, I happened to look down at my cell phone and see that my husband had sent me a sweet message. I smile as I continue with my message to this father detailing something naughty his son had done that morning at school. Well, the ending of this message went something like this:
"So I trust you understand why we can't allow this type of behavior at school. Call me if you have any questions. Love ya. Bye."
I hung up the phone.
Then I just sat there...my words repeating in my head.
Oh. Dear. Lord.
Instant Smile Moment
Awkward Moment
I'm sitting in my office with my favorite 5th grade boy and we are knee-deep in a counseling session on feelings. All of a sudden, the lights go out. My office has no natural light (I work in a virtual cave. If you hate sunshine, butterfies and fresh breezes...this is the office of your dreams).
I digress. The lights go out due to a power outage so this student and I are sitting in the pitch black and we're both silent. A few moments go by and I hear him take a deep breath, pause, and then he asks me in a shy voice "Is this romantic?"
Have a great weekend beautiful friends!

Can you spot the happy dog in this photo?
Brings an instant smile to my face.

Haha! I would SO totally do that on the voicemail. I think we've all about done it at some point.
The romantic thing is priceless!
Happy Friday! xo
You are SOOO funny. And amazing for sharing these moments. Whenever I do something embarrassing, I immediately tweet about it/blog about it and feel better. Why is that?! Anyway, thank you for making me want ANOTHER striped top, and really thank you for what you do. :)
I do love your favorite 5th grader!!! Maybe the parents will think you're just a love everyone type of counselor.......A happy happy doggie finding joy in the moment, there's a smile on this face too! You look great as always.
LOL!!! I literally just laughed out loud at work at your voicemail message to your "parent." My coworker across the hall just asked, "WHAT?" about what I'm laughing at. He just wouldn't get it. lol
I've doen something to this effect before....I used to be a hostess at a restaurant and answered the phones. One morning I was working and picked up the receiver- instead of saying: "Thank you for calling BLANK, how may I help you?" I said, "Father thank you for this food.."
I STARTED SAYING THE BLESSING. WTF??? lol
hahaha. i loved your "did i do that" and awkward moments! so funny. and of course, you look great as always!
Marion, you crack me up as usual!!! That is too funny about the voicemail.
Haha, oh my gosh, that is TOO funny about the voicemail! Oops. I LOVE that photo of Bogey out the car window. I get so nervous when Oliver does that, I'm convinced he's going to fall out the window like Marley & Me. Have a great weekend, Marion!

OMG I am cracking up right now. The "love ya, bye" had me laughing out loud. I've done that! So embarrassing, but I think everyone's done it at some point! And about your other student, I am also LOL at that b/c I can't imagine all you see and hear in one day! LMAO!

HAHA. You student is so adorable and hilarious. I hope you told him he can't be romantic with anyone for another 5-7 years.
I once called one of my bosses "dad" by mistake. I think it's pretty comparable to your voicemail.

Love this casual friday look! Too funny about the phone call - I've done that before too, but luckily only with friends, so it wasn't that bad!
Marion, you have the absolute best stories! I'll look forward to hearing if and how those parents respond! Love that grey blazer over the striped top. :) Have a great weekend!
Bwahahaa!!! I've said that before to someone I didn't mean to. What's worse though...doing it on a live phone conversation...hmmm, awkward.
And yes, for sure romantic! Love you friend!! xoxo

That blazer is great! Great casual outfit!
Lol! Enjoyed your stories! :)
OMG! I'm on a long car drive with my boyfriend and just read this out loud to him! We're both hysterical laughing! Hopefully that father was distracted by what his son did and didn't get to hear the end. LOL. Looking great in this outfit! have a wonderful weekend doll.
Xoxo,

I am a teacher of 3rd graders in NC and your moments of the week with students crack me up! I can completely relate to most of them and I have also done the "love ya" thing on a phone conversation when it was totally not appropriate. Thanks for the laughs today!
I have that same t-shirt, thanks for the idea! Your moments always make me laugh : ) Have a great weekend!
I love these posts of yours :) Kids say the darndest things, and that message you left must have been hilarious for the dad to listen to :P
Hahahaha...between that voicemail for the father and the kid saying "is this romantic"...sounds like you've had a funny week! :P Have a great weekend! (Love your outfit btw!)
Oh my WORD!!! I am dying over your parent voicemail. I've definitely left some awkward phone messages to parents in my career. I am so bad with parent phone calls!
Loving your blog! New follower as of today :)
I am so happy to have found you via the link-up. This outfit is so great for a casual Friday!
In my previous (pre-teaching career), the majority of my job was spent leaving voicemail messages, so I constantly fall back into that when calling parents.
In some cases I've just had to laugh, hang up and call back, leaving another message to apologize for the first one!
Haha! I laughed out loud when I read this post. Kids are hilarious. And I've accidentally said 'love ya' on the phone to non family members before too...
And your outfit is adorable, as usual!
This is the BEST LAUGH I've had all week!!!!! I found your link on Tara's site...I love sharing/reading stories "from the teaching trenches", as I call it sometimes.
Also, your necklace is really adorable and adds just the right touch to a cute and casual outfit!
I love how u got moment of the week. Thanks for visiting my blog :) xo
Hahahaha those little stories are really funny! I really like how you do that (I just found your blog today, thank you so much for commenting on mine!). And this outfit is so cute, you look really classy!
<3
I love your outfit - gorgeous!
Great look! Loving the stripes

First love the outfit and I would steal your bag if I could. Second, sounds like a week of love all the way around. But don't feel bad. I once called a client baby. (like in the romantic sense of your spouse). I hung up quickly!
BAHHAHAHAHAHA! The two work related moments are hilarious. I always feel so awk when I'm on autopilot and say things like "I'm good!" when no one even asked me how I am. "Love ya" is taking it to a new level though! :)
hahahahahahahahaah so so so hilarious. your stories never cease to CRACK ME UP! and that outfit is adorable.
hahhaaaa I literally laughed out loud reading your moments of the week. That message is hilarious!
This outfit is SO SO SO adorable!!! I love it!!
Oh my gosh, you have me rolling. I teach 5th grade so I can totally relate to your stories. I've said, "Love you" to kids several times without thinking...they just look at me like I'm totally lame. However, they've called me, "Mama" a few times and that shocks them too. I love that you said that to the parent!!
