Well...this is not an official statistic. I couldn't find research pertaining to ponytails. But I am fairly certain that I am not alone in my devotion to this classic hairstyle!
Time to shake-up the routine with these 4 simple twists on the original:
1) Low & Sleek Pony:
This classic style always looks ladylike and pretty. Just lean back a little bit, gather the hair at the nape of your neck and fasten. For an extra polish, take a strand a wrap it around the band, tucking it into the base.
TIP: This is a go-to classic look when you really need to look pulled-together and somewhat conservative (big business meeting, meeting the future in-laws, etc.)
2) The Side-Pony:
Cardinal rule of the low ponytail: keep it low! None of your friends want to eat lunch with the girl who looks like she walked straight out of the 80's.
Using your fingers, gently gather hair to the side nape of your neck and secure. You can pull the band loose and tease hair for a more effortless but chic look.
TIP: This is a romantic style that is perfect for weekend wear or to shake-up your casual Friday look!
3) High-Pony:
One of my favorites for when I work out! This look is like an instant face-lift...giving you the cheekbones you never knew you had. Just be sure not to go too high.
4) The Big Tail:
A recent runway favorite, this style screams sexy + drama + classic! The beauty of this look is that it appears as though you didn't try too hard...which we all know is the most gorgeous look of all! Just make any of the above ponytails and then tease using a rattail comb working from the ends on up. I like to add definition with a curling iron and then tease and separate to create a big, sexy look.
TIP: Consider rocking this look on date night. A mini-skirt + long sleeves + sexy heels + a big, teased ponytail = he'll be smiling!
A few things to consider when doing your next ponytail:
- pull a few strands of hair out near the face to frame and add a little interest
- add a little extra va-va-voom by lifting slightly at the crown of your ponytail
- In a hurry? Throw on a headband + ponytail and go!
Remember ladies...you don't wear the same shoes everyday, so you shouldn't wear the same ponytail. Exercise your options :-)
So which is your favorite? Do you wear one of these styles often?

PS - just a note to say thank you so much for reading. I love hearing and learning from each of you. Completely makes my day! XOXO

Love, love side ponytails!
I love the high pony, but theyre all so cute!!
@ Tara and Adriana - Love those also! I also like to mix up a few of these. Today I'm rocking a high BIG ponytail. Guess I was inspired from all the photos :-)
I am so wearing a ponytail right now. FUNNY! I immediately wrapped a section around the band to step it up a bit. You're like my fashion drill sergeant. I like it!
Love this post. I rarely wear my hair up, because I hate how I look like a completely different person with my hair pulled back. But perhaps I'm missing these critical details. Curled ends, teased hair. I'm going to try it out. :)
Hiii ... is there information somewhere on how to do that low pony tail with the braid looking thing?
Thanks!
@ Cathy - I love that ponytail also! Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a how-to on replicating this exact look, however it appears to be just the start of a simple fish-tail braid and just pinned at the top and left open as a ponytail.
